The Niños del Lago team met with 12 potential partner organizations from around Western Guatemala for a special La Cadena workshop. La Cadena is a network of schools and children’s organizations that will participate in the NDL program – and work alongside the team at Niños del Lago.
We´ve had so much excitement happening over the past few months, but we wanted to take a minute to share the experiences of our second group of children at Niños del Lago. Once again campers joined us from the Guatemala City NGO, Boys Hope, Girls Hope (Esperanza Juvenil), for a four-day adventure at our beautiful site near San Andres Semetebaj, overlooking Lake Atitlan. Forty four children experienced the wonder of sleeping in our colorful cabins, alongside the growing 'El Nido' (nest), main building.
The educational volunteers at Ninos del Lago have been working steadily on creating the specific, day to day activities of the camp experience that will inspire Guatemalan children. We want the daily activities to make the right impact on these children so that when they leave, they are changed positively and motivated to come back the following year.
After three days of laughs, fun and learning, Ninos del Lago is happy to say that our December event was a huge success. Hosting the children from Esperanza Juvenil was a great learning experience, for both the children and their mentors. We’re so happy to have accepted our first group of children to camp!!
Ninos del Lago is often astounded at the amazing, skilled, passionate people that we find to volunteer for our organization. We have so many qualified people working so hard, that there’s little room to doubt that our organization is and will be hugely successful. And the epitome of a fantastic group of people getting things done is our fundraising group in Holland. In the last few months alone, they’ve managed to raise more than $10,000 for Ninos del Lago. We couldn’t be more grateful for their hard work and dedication.
At Ninos del Lago, our volunteers are working on preparations to receive our first group of children on December 5th. Due to excellent planning and communication, we’re making solid progress with development of our children’s program.
