Tutoring Program
“Stay in School”
“The education children receive can help them fully develop their personalities, talents, and abilities; enable them to understand their rights, respect the rights and culture of others, and the differences between others and themselves; at the same time, help them learn to live in harmony with others and help them learn to love and integrate into nature and protect the environment”.
Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 29
Why This Program Matters?

In Guatemala, many children face a difficult reality. Their families live in poverty, and their parents never had the chance to attend school. These parents want to help their children with homework and learning, but often they don’t know how or can’t afford private tutors. Without support, these children struggle to keep up, risking dropping out.
That’s why our Tutoring Program exists. We step in to fill that gap, offering personalized academic support and walking alongside these children throughout their school year. Our goal is simple: to give every child the opportunity to succeed in school and build a better future.
How We Guide Children?
Picture a small classroom with just ten children gathered around their tutor. This intimate group size allows the tutor to truly understand each child, their strengths, challenges, and unique learning style. We respect each child’s learning pace and take the time to understand how they learn best. For eight months each year, we meet regularly to review homework, reinforce lessons, and tailor support to meet each student’s individual needs. We also ensure that every child has the necessary materials and school supplies to fully participate in their learning. Beyond working with the children, we actively involve parents and teachers by providing resources and guidance, building a strong, supportive community around every learner.

Math Support
Math can be scary for many children, especially when they don’t even know the numbers or basic arithmetic operations. This unfamiliarity often makes them feel lost or frustrated. We help them overcome this by connecting math to everyday life, like buying things at the market or sharing food with siblings. Step by step, we guide them to see numbers and math not just as abstract symbols on a page, but as practical tools they can understand and use. This approach breaks down their fear, builds their confidence, and encourages them to think logically and solve problems independently.

Literacy Support
Many children come to us struggling with reading and writing, despite having attended school. For various reasons, they haven’t yet mastered these essential skills, which creates barriers to their learning and progress. We start by patiently teaching the basics; letter by letter, word by word, building their confidence step by step. Once they grasp these fundamentals, something magical happens: they begin to enjoy reading stories, expressing their own ideas through writing, and thinking critically about the world around them. This newfound love for literacy opens doors that were previously closed.
Our Educational Approach
Everything we do is guided by three simple but powerful principles:
-
Personalized Learning: We meet each child where they are and tailor lessons to fit their needs.
-
Child-Centered Learning: We encourage children to be curious, ask questions, and take charge of their learning.
-
Holistic Development: We support not only academic growth but also emotional, social, and physical well-being.

What Results Are We Working Toward?
Through our comprehensive tutoring program, we aim to achieve the following outcomes:
-
Improved Academic Performance: We expect to see measurable progress in students’ academic abilities, particularly in literacy and mathematics. This includes better grades, increased comprehension, and higher school retention rates. Our focus on personalized support helps children catch up, stay on track, and build the foundational skills they need to thrive in school.
-
Empowered Children as Agents of Change: By helping children gain confidence in their learning and overcome barriers, we encourage them to become active participants in their education. Over time, they develop the capacity to inspire positive change within their families and communities.
-
Long-Term Contribution to Poverty Reduction: By equipping children with strong educational foundations and the tools to succeed, we contribute to breaking cycles of poverty. Our long-term approach fosters sustainable development by expanding opportunities and empowering children to build brighter futures.
These outcomes reflect our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful and lasting change for vulnerable children in Guatemala.
