Our Programs

Our three foundational programs support our vision

Niños del Lago supports children’s development and growth with three programs that form the foundation of our methodology. Through inspirational programs, we aim to provide children with educational, health/nutrition, mentoring and personal development programs that build academic and life skills, self-confidence, emotional/social skills, resilience, community connection, and social responsibility.

Our Education Program

Encourages students to stay in school by fostering academic success

Our approach

Niños del Lago (NdL) works with local schools, teachers and parents to reach the children most in need. NdL provides support in core subjects, focusing on math, reading and writing. The goal is to improve children's basic  understanding with lessons designed to address their special needs. By fostering curiousity and making learning fun, students become enthusiastic about attending school. Our teachers are specially trained to give the children the guidance that leads to success.

How does Niños del Lago help?

Children who need extra support in math, reading, and writing receive one-on-one guidance to address their challenges. Our goal is not only to strengthen these basic skills, but to cultivate a genuine love of learning through engaging and creative approaches. Creating a fun learning environment, we ensure children remain motivated and engaged in the classroom.

Our Health Program

Supports healthy growth though medical care and nutrition

Our approach

In many villages, there are no doctors or nurses. Medical care and health services are limited.  Medical services are either low quality, too expensive or requires traveling long distances to under-staffed clinics provided by International NGOs.  As a result, children who have grown up malnourished, now have the opportunity to be screened for potential health care needs and given the nutritional support they require to learn and grow.

One of the key objectives of NdL is to teach children the importance of health and self care, focusing on three core components: medical care, proper nutrition, and improved hygiene (personal & food).

How does Niños del Lago help?

We provide healthy snacks in the morning (promoting fruits, vegetables and natural options). We also provide a nourishing, balanced lunch meal in the afternoon.
We organize workshops to teach children (and their parents and/or caregivers) about hygiene, prevention, nutrition and healthy cooking, and engage them in health-related topics in a fun way.

NdL is committed to ensuring that our children have access to basic medical care, which is essential for their proper growth and development. We emphasize the importance of good hygiene (food and body) to prevent disease.

Personal Development

Our Empathy & Impact Program

Our approach

This program combines emotional development workshops with community activities. Each child participates in sessions in an emotional support group where they learn about self-awareness, emotional control, and conflict resolution. Sessions are complemented by community projects where children can apply what they have learned, contributing to concrete improvements in their environment (examples: cleaning public spaces, reforestation, environmental awareness campaigns, etc.).

How does Niños del Lago help?

This program aims to empower children to play an integral role as future changemakers in their communities. They also develop emotional and social skills that will enable them to face personal and social challenges with confidence. By the end of the program, the children will not only have learned to manage their emotions but will also have adopted an attitude of service and responsibility toward their communities.
