How moving it is to watch one child help another! The rewards are great and lasting in the minds and hearts of children who share. Here are a few ideas to get you started...
Many teachers find that involving their students in the lives of people in other parts of the world, is a meaningful way to develop knowledge and compassion.
Cultural Food Sale – prepare traditional Guatemalan foods and sell them. Document the process with photos or a video. Send the monies earned and the documentation to the children at Niños del Lago in Guatemala to be displayed in our Diary of Donations.
Art Auction – students would chose a picture of Guatemala or its people (something from Guatemala which they can recreate in a painting or drawing.) They would have an art auction and raise monies to send to Guatemala. The monies and documentation would be sent to our camp in Guatemala for inclusion and display in our Diary of Donations.
Create a Class Game Book – each student would choose a favorite game or activity, make instructions for this by making a drawing or something written in español which would be teacher-guided. (This should explain the activity properly.) A book would be made of these activities and sent to the children at Niños del Lago to use at the camp.
