Resources Development Lead
Niños del Lago is seeking an experienced, well organized and skilled Resources Development Lead. The ideal candidate will possess strong fundraising skills coupled with organizational and project conceptual, development and other management skills. These would be best indicated with not-for-profit or relevant business experience.  You will bring creativity and excellent administrative and writing skills with a proven ability to work in team and individual settings. This is an excellent opportunity to join and exciting project that is moving forward with a very exciting concept.


The position, based in beautiful Panajachel. could start part time with the potential to develop into an exciting and rewarding full time opportunity and, depending on your qualifications a small living stipend may be available.


You will work alongside the Executive and Development Committee teams, Administrative Manager and report directly to the Executive Director.  If you are excited about providing the leadership, supporting strategic organizational and project development, and the management and coordination for resourcing, partnerships and fundraising efforts for an exciting not-for-profit role, this position is for you! The position requires sound fundraising insight and judgment, a collaborative work approach, solid organizational skills and excellent written and spoken communication in English. Your role will encompass corporate relations, foundations and smaller grants, gifts, and design and coordination of a variety of partnership, fundraising campaigns and special events.  You will also develop and manage a new sponsorship program.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Prepare updates to an annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director, Administrative Manager & Teams including a key part of the annual budget and planning processes;
  • Provide detailed and regular reports about the fundraising progress to the Executive Director & Development Committee as well as appropriate Board committees; 
  • Implement fundraising strategies that increase the organization’s support from individuals, corporations, foundations, Rotary liasion and other sources; with a special emphasis on developing individual, corporate and recurring donors in conjunction though existing and new web, newsletter, event, partnership and social media outreach;
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate short-term and long-range strategies for sponsor and donor engagement, and provide key support for Business and Development Plans;
  • Work to ensure that projects are being implemented according to Grants, contractual requirements or Donor expectations, including deliverables, results, reporting and invoicing;
  • Play a key, hands-on role in identifying, cultivating and soliciting funding from diverse sources;
  • Provide resource research and assistance as needed to staff and volunteer leaders;
  • Prepare complex documents and reports as required, ensuring quality and consistency in all documents;
  • Build and support partnering relationships with staff, project leadership and donors and seek to fully understand programs, needs and opportunities thoroughly while working collaboratively to design and integrate resourcing development strategies across the organization;
  • Work effectively with the Executive Director and Executive Team, the Development Committee, Boards of Directors and other key volunteers: leveraging their ideas, talents, and resources to enhance resources and fundraising activities; enhance Board members’ ability to identify fundraising opportunities and encourage their ongoing participation as donors, solicitors and partnership builders.
  • Advance, as a visible spokesperson and advocate, the organization’s mission, programs, activities and impacts in the funding community;
  • Ensure strategic engagement and resourcing objectives and planned results are met with reasonable costs;
  • Ensure that appropriate systems and procedures are in place to support fundraising goals and operations with a stable flow of funds from a diverse set of sources, including Rotary and social enterprises sources;
  • Participate in and lead as appropriate, individual, committee meetings and other meetings.

Qualifications:

  • A seasoned fundraising leader with a minimum of 3-5 years of successful resource development experience
  • A reputation for excellence with a demonstrable track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting individual donors, corporations and foundations.
  • Experience with sponsorship programming design and management is highly desirable.
  • Fluent in English and comfortable and communicating in Spanish.

In addition, s/he should have or bring:

  • Demonstrated experience working with people, strategic and project design, organizational development, including budgets.
  • Prior work with volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills, with a proven record of managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Proven concern for detail, organization, and timely follow-through.
  • Solid research and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Relational Database, mailing lists and donor software (Network For Good or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a complex, multicultural environment where flexibility and a commitment to respect the diversity of cultures are important institutional values.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Knowledge of the Guatemalan cultural context.

We are seeking a minimum 6 month commitment for this exciting volunteer position with an opportunity for the right candidate to extend to full time as may be mutually agreed.

Development Associate Niños del Lago is seeking an experienced, well organized Development Associate. Working with the founder and Executive Director the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational development and support skills, with solid not-for-profit (or relevant business) experience and bring excellent administrative,  solid creative and technical writing skills and a proven ability to work in team and individual settings. You will enjoy the fast pace and rewards that come from juggling multiple tasks and responsibilities and be comfortable in English and Spanish. This is an excellent opportunity to put to good use and really hone first-hand the vital aspects that go with the day-to-day administration and  development of a thriving non-profit.

Responsibilities

  • The vital organizational role will work alongside the Guatemalan-based founder/Executive Director and an active development committee and involve a variety of special projects, including general and organizational development support and some day-to-day activities.
  • In a team role you will assist with donor relations, project conceptualization and execution,  planning and coordinating special events, site visits, meetings etc.
  • Coordinating with the ED and full-time Administrative Manager, Board(s) of Directors and an active Development Commitee this may include creative writing, support for website and social media, newsletters, input to a variety of marketing materials and the compilation  of stats for reporting, along with team support for grant proposals, reports and ensuring that all donors are appropriately thanked and receive regular communication;
  • You will assist with donor support activities, including tracking gifts received in donor management database, assist with mailing lists, acknowledgement letters, customized gift acknowledgement letters and help produce a varity of organzational reports,
  • Working with the Administrative Manager, various project leaders and accountants you will also assist with annual budgets, audits, and revisions to the business and operating plans
  • Maintain excellent relations with the project teams, relevant government agencies, and other partners and stakeholders.
  • For the right candidate there is also an exciting opportunity to help take point and help define and advance a core project component (The Bridges Program) that will expose better off Guatemalan youth campers to the inequalities and diverse social-economic challenges that face many rural and indigenous Guatemalans, and using a social-enterprise approach link, build and  reach out with practical actions. 
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant diploma or degree with 3-5 + years non-profit, international development or social enterprise experience
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent organizational skills and good attention to detail
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Comfortable and effective in both english and spanish with good editing and proofreading skills
  • Be a self-starter with ability to manage multiple, complex tasks, and adjust priorities under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience working with people, strategic and project design, organizational development,  including budgets.
  • Prior work with volunteers.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality norms.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, email, web research and other programs
  • Graphic design skills, social media and website experience a definite plus
  • Experience with a donor relations databases or mailing programs also a plus.
  • Friendly, flexible, confident, assertive and mature personality, with a good sense of humor
  • Knowledge of the Guatemalan cultural context
